How to Use the T-Shirt Design Size Chart

Getting the right print size is critical for professional-looking apparel. A design that's too small looks like a sample, while one that's too large can bleed past seams. This calculator gives you industry-standard dimensions based on garment type, size, and print placement.

Print Placement Guide

Center Chest — The most popular placement. Positioned 3–4 inches below the collar, centered horizontally. Works for logos, text, and medium-sized graphics. Standard width is 9–12 inches depending on garment size.

Full Front — A large print covering most of the front. Starts about 3 inches below the collar and extends down past the chest. Width ranges from 11–15 inches. Best for bold graphics and all-over designs.

Left Chest — A small print positioned over the heart, about 3 inches below the shoulder seam. Typically 3.5–4.5 inches square. The standard for brand logos, initials, and minimal designs.

Full Back — Same dimensions as full front, applied to the back of the garment. Great for large graphics, names, and numbers.

Oversized Front — For streetwear brands wanting maximum visual impact. Larger than full front, with widths from 14–17 inches. The design intentionally pushes past traditional boundaries.

What DPI Should I Use?

For screen printing and DTF transfers, use 300 DPI for the best quality. This means a 12 × 15 inch center chest design should be 3600 × 4500 pixels. For web mockups and previews, 72 DPI is sufficient. Use the pixel calculator above to get exact dimensions for your target DPI.

Tips for Different Garments

Hoodies — Account for the kangaroo pocket. Center chest prints sit higher than on t-shirts to avoid overlap. Height is typically shorter (8–11 inches vs 10–13 for t-shirts).

Oversized T-Shirts — The wider silhouette allows for larger prints. Scale up 1–2 inches compared to regular t-shirts for proportional coverage.

Caps — Front panel space is limited to approximately 4 × 2.5 inches. Keep designs simple with clean lines — fine details get lost at this size.
